Broaddus Planning is a member of the Broaddus Companies, which includes Broaddus & Associates, founded in 2000 in Austin, Texas, by James A. Broaddus, Ph.D., P.E.. Since the firm's inception, the Broaddus Companies have fostered multiple corporate affiliates in the areas of project management, planning, finance, design and construction. Today its companies have grown to a staff of more than 80 talented individuals in multiple offices throughout the United States.

Prior to founding the company, Dr. Broaddus was active in research, policy development and implementation of major public sector projects. Following a 20-year career as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer and Seabee in the U.S. Navy, he served as Associate Director of the Construction Industry Institute, a national research center dedicated to improving quality and cost-effectiveness on construction projects. Dr. Broaddus served as the Director of Facilities Planning and Construction for the 15-campus statewide University of Texas System from 1994-1998. It was during his subsequent tenure as CEO of The Design-Build Institute of America that Dr. Broaddus recognized a need for assisting owners in managing complex major capital construction programs.  In 2003, Broaddus & Associates began a division of the firm that offering planning services, and in 2009 this division would become a separate company called Broaddus Planning. Evidenced by an increasing number of satisfied clients, Broaddus Planning has continued to advance its founders' mission of providing consensus-driven, sustainable planning strategies that are visionary, yet realistic.
