MASTER PLANNING

Austin Community College District- Round Rock Campus Master Plan

After acquisitioning 84 acres of land in Round Rock, Texas, Austin Community College District (ACCD) developed a master plan for a ground-up campus that embodies the college’s growth and direction. Broaddus Planning was engaged by ACCD as the master plan consultant to the architect, Graeber, Simmons & Cowan. In a regional context, the new campus site is located between Round Rock and Georgetown on the Interstate Highway 35 corridor. At the northern edge of one of the fastest growing Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) in the nation, ACCD’s new campus is situated to serve the needs of the surrounding community as it continues to expand.

In adhering to the master planning principles, (1-Comprehensive Campus; 2-Sense of Place; 3-Image & Identity; 4-Integrated Plan; 5-Sustained Growth), the Campus Master Plan focuses on the campus core, locating the library and centering administration in the heart of the campus. A series of interconnected, pedestrian-only green spaces lead up to the library, and the programmatically-grouped campus buildings help to frame these dynamic places. The master plan describes a Phase 1 Fall 2010 opening date to accommodate an initial 5,000 students in five buildings, including 250,000 GSF and 1,260 Parking Spaces. The long range plan accommodates 11,500 students, including additions and new construction for a total of 575,000 GSF and 2,927 parking spaces.
