MedCentral College of Nursing Programming Services

MedCentral College of Nursing was founded in 1997 as a private institution of higher education offering programs of study leading to the baccalaureate degree in nursing. It has served the communities of North Central Ohio for over 85 years. The college is not-for-profit, and evolved from a hospital-based diploma program that was established in 1919 by the Mansfield General Hospital. The commitment to nursing education continued with the incorporation of the MedCentral Health System in 1996. The complete project will include new construction of a 50,000 SF MedCentral College of Nursing Academic and Student Services Building.

The project included a light review of provided information about the proposed 50,000 SF College of Nursing Academic and Student Services building currently in design. Broaddus Planning facilitated dialogue with selected end user groups (faculty, administration, and staff) about current and future programs and operations of the college, and conducted group meetings to determine present needs and future needs for building space requirements. This allowed them to identify curriculum status and projected changes that would impact programming space requirements in the new building.

Selected faculty, administrators, and staff then identified their present programming concerns and priorities, which Broaddus Planning translated into floor plan and concept designs. By providing building graphics, an estimate of space allocation was established, and a comparison was made to other schools of nursing in the areas of administration, faculty offices, instructional space, student support, and general building spaces. Cost estimates were completed, giving MedCentral College a design criteria package ready for implementation.
